Smoke and mirrors

The astounding Dr. Sanity quotes from Stephen Hicks' Explaining Postmodernism.

Using contradictory discourses as a political strategy

In postmodern discourse, truth is rejected explicitly and consistency can be a rare phenomenon. Consider the following pairs of claims.
  • On the one hand, all truth is relative; on the other hand, postmodernism tells it like it really is.
  • On the one hand, all cultures are equally deserving of respect; on the other, Western culture is uniquely destructive and bad.
  • Values are subjective--but sexism and racism are really evil
  • Technology is bad and destructive--and it is unfair that some people have more technology than others.
  • Tolerance is good and dominance is bad--but when postmodernists come to power, political correctness follows.
There is a common pattern here: Subjectivism and relativism in one breath, dogmatic absolutism in the next.

You know it is so true.

I was just listening to Exlax McDonald former leader of the ndp circus, on the Charles Alder show.

Well Exlax was going on about the military writing the speech for Prez Hamid Karzai, stating he was a puppet of Harper's Canadian military.

Exlax, being an ndper, could not answer any direct questions. She was asked if she believed the Canadian military were doing anything of value for the people of Kandahar Afghanistan, and she wouldn't answer. I would take that as a no.

This is why the ndp will never be in power...this, and the fact taliban Jack is jumping up and down because he just found out Canada has a mother of a surplus. Harper is going to put it on the debt, instead of spending it on some fucked up useless social program the ndp have been working on for years.

and she wouldn't answer
More like "couldn't" answer. It's never surprising that anyone cannot get a word in edgewise with windbag Adler.

Speaking of Taliban Jack, what was Hamid Karzai saying at the UN? Something about negotiating with the Taliban?

No she wouldn't answer. Go to Alder's website and listen to the interview. She talked the talk of the ndp, no plan, no substance, no logic, just socialist ideology. An ideology not based in plans, substance or logic.

That would Karzai's call not taliban Jack's.

Even if Karzai's does it will not do much good. The taliban are barbaric animals that need to no longer exist. Karzai is playing poker, worried about Canada pulling out. If Canada pulls out, along with other civilized countries, and Karzai has to succumb to taliban rule, you can bet your booties there will be another world war.

I am pretty sure after the taliban are done slaugherting their own kin,, they will be coming for us.

You speak of the Taliban as if they are some kind of robot churned out of a taliban factory, all the same.

They are composed of many different people. Some are foreigners, the fanatic jihadists. Some are farmers, coerced or enticed into taking up arms. Some are religious students, from which the name "taliban" originally derived. And some are religious clergy who have set themselves up as leaders of a movement.

Karzai wants to break the Taliban. There are plenty who would readily turn against the fanatics in their midst. He knows that, since at one time he supported the Taliban. What? Yes, Karzai supported the Taliban. How can that be? Aren't all Taliban supporters just robots who cannot think and who need to no longer exist? Sorry if it damages your one dimensional black and white view of the world.

Do you blame every single German of the 1930s and 40s for fascism and mass murder? Do you blame every single Russian of the 20s to the 90s for soviet communism and mass murder? Do you blame every single Chinese of the 40s to the present for chinese communism and mass murder? If you do then you are being consistent. If you do not, then why the special treatment for the taliban? Like all totalitarians, if you destroy the leadership, you will not have to destroy everyone who followed them. Just the murderers and torturers who were close to the leadership.

The only way we will have another world war is if one dimensional black and white "thinking" like yours gains widespread control of the levers of power.

Well they are, the taliban are all jihadist, churned out by the underbelly of islam. Karzai does need to break them, but I can't see anything other than killing them, to accomplish that.

To give into them now, to give them any sort of value, will be a sign to the jihadist that they have won. You don't negotiate with terrorist, you destroy them.

.... oh and eng,I blame the whole world for the slaughter of the Jews in WW2, ditto for Rawanda, and many of the others. The UN, is a farce.

eng said...

I can't see anything other than killing them, to accomplish that.

That is because you are retarded.

Karzai wants to separate the fanatics from the rest.

Elaine said...

Separate the fanatics from the rest? That would be like picking flyshit out of tea leaves wouldn't it?

No doubt the taliban are very apt at recruiting fanatical fuckwits to do their bidding. It would pretty easy given they are followers of islam. Not like you are going to find more than a handful who have ever had a thought of their own in their life times.

So eng, what is your take on the taliban hanging that 15 year old boy because they found he had about $10.00 or so of US money in his pocket?

Do you actually believe they can be negotiated with? Is there is any hope of them becoming civilized in the next 20 years or so?

If the Candian soldiers pull out it will be necessary for the taliban to slaughter anyone who has had any contact with them. They can't have anyone hanging around the villages who have a memory, or a hope, of how things could be.
