Soccer is stupid

Instead of staying home and watching the game, or remaining within the boundaries of their favoured smoke-free environment, soocer cultists invaded the downtown streets of London on Saturday to celebrate Portugal's victory over England. Their deafening roars and honks were matched by the cracks and bangs of a taxpayer funded smoke-screen at the Forks of the Thames.

Downtown London was coloured in red and green yesterday as Portuguese fans waving flags and honking horns celebrated Portugal's 3-1 win over England in the quarter-final World Cup match yesterday.

"We're going to go all the way through the final," said Hermani Pinto, a Portuguese fan wearing his favourite team's shirt and waving a flag with his family and friends on Richmond Street.

[..] The World Cup tournament means so much to the Portuguese community because "we grew up with it," said Pinto.

"It's all we've ever known," she said.

[..] Some fans drank and ate Portuguese sandwiches called "bifanas," while some fans lost their appetite during the intense game.

"They had to go outside because they could not watch," said Machado.

The game was scoreless after overtime and was decided by penalty kicks.
