You're all going to vote Liberal whoever gets the hospital, so it wasn't a hard choice

Today's (dead tree) Free Press featured a look back at five years of quotes from potentates about the Shriner's Hospital process. The following quote is from August, 2003.

Mayor Anne Marie DeCicco said the Shriners hospital means hundreds of new health and construction jobs and the augmentation of exceptional health care for the region.

"We can never overestimate the enormity of what this means to London," DeCicco said. "People just have no idea how big this is."
Dictionary.com:
e·nor·mi·ty
n. pl. e·nor·mi·ties

1. The quality of passing all moral bounds; excessive wickedness or outrageousness.
2. A monstrous offense or evil; an outrage.
Maybe this was an example of the "usage error" given at dictionary.com, but then again, at that point in time, the hospital design still included that controversial, fiery mechanical entranceway shaped like the savage maw of Baal, the patron deity of socialized medicine. That particular design element was only finally removed at the insistence of Dalton McGuinty in 2004 because of the energy expenditure impracticality of the belching flames.

Perhaps it's for the best that this facility stays in the PRQ.
