Equality fever grips the land.

I would rather have a country run by arrogant crooks who respected the essential equality of all Canadians than one run by Puritans who don't.
Given that choice, I'll take my chances with the Puritanical standards of three or four minutes ago, from way back before this issue suddenly became so pressing and important. I don't think I'm smart enough to understand the unforeseen consequences of screwing around with the fundamental institution in society, and I haven't been impressed by those who claim to be, or by whatever fiends from the leftist demonology they summon up to label opposition to the great leap forward.

I'm with the Monarchist.

Coup de main

It's amusing to see the "more libertarian" wing of the CPC make its bed with the Liberals, Charter and left-wing judiciary rather than even consider alternatives.

I suspect as a goerning principle equality before the law is at least as important as preserving the traditional definition of marriage. Especially where that definition is not going to be harmed by allowing that equality.

Jay;

How do civil unions violate the principle of equality before the law? And while the legal definition is not going to be harmed by allowing that one particular sort of equality, what other definitions are you considering? One of the hallmarks of what I thought was conservatism is consideration of the consequences of government actions and just restraint from unnecessary legislation. I have never been able to figure out exactly what principle of equality is being violated currently — if gays do not choose to get married under the current definition, why does the government want to reallocate their preferences?

Signed, a libertarian conservative.

"Equality", in this case and as usually used, is just a marketing slogan used for the fashionable cause of the day.

Thanks for the support, Fogger. Needless to say, as a staunch monarchist, I can't afford to accept egalitarian logic because it leads right to Her Majesty. And besides, true equality for all is an unattainable, Marxist dream. It's a fools paradise.

As if the media will ever give them a fair chance however Liberal they get.

It took about, what, seriously now, about six or seven minutes for SSM to move from unthinkable to dogma, to a point where skeptics are called bigots because they're skeptics.

The institutionalized passion for equality, or more precisely, for greed and envy, has, does, and will inspire the invention of new kinds of "bigotry" and "hate" as required to tar reactionary elements. The CPC's bending over for SSM will not stand in their favour when their true anti-fill-in-the-blank sentiments are made clear by their reaction to the next victimhood fad.
